A little extra help can make a big difference.
We know the cost of private speech therapy can add up.
Depending on your child's age, diagnosis, insurance coverage, and family income, you may qualify for grants that can help cover speech therapy, evaluations, AAC, or other communication-related services.
We've gathered a few places you can explore below.
Small Steps in Speech
Small Steps in Speech provides grants specifically for children and young adults with communication needs.
Funding may be used toward speech therapy, therapeutic programs, and certain assistive communication devices or applications.
Who can apply:
Children and young adults ages 3–22 who are U.S. citizens and live in the United States. Household income requirements apply.
Good to know:
Grants can be used for future speech therapy services, and the treating speech-language pathologist must be ASHA certified.
UnitedHealth-care Children's Foundation
The UnitedHealthcare Children's Foundation provides medical grants to help families pay for eligible healthcare services that aren't covered, or aren't fully covered, by their commercial health insurance.
Funding may be available for eligible speech therapy and other healthcare expenses.
Who can apply:
Families of children age 16 or younger who meet the foundation's insurance, income, and other eligibility requirements.
Good to know:
Your child does not need to have UnitedHealthcare insurance. However, they must have qualifying commercial health insurance.
Autism Care Today
Autism Care Today provides financial assistance to families of children and individuals with autism.
Grants may help cover treatment, assessments, communication supports, assistive technology, and other approved services.
Who can apply:
Families throughout the United States who have a family member with an autism diagnosis. Financial circumstances are considered as part of the application.
Good to know:
Typical grants range from $100–$5,000, and approved funds are generally paid directly to the approved provider or vendor.
